BitcoinPOS supports Bitcoin Lightning Network
The BitcoinPOS cash register system supports accepting Bitcoin via the Lightning Network (LN). This built‑in feature is designed for fast, low‑cost, and reliable payments at the point of sale—suitable for small shops through to larger stores.
Key benefits for merchants
- Instant confirmation – payments clear virtually immediately, keeping checkout lines moving even at peak times.
- Lower transaction costs – LN fees are significantly lower than card payments or bank transfers.
- Attract new customers – accepting BTC broadens your payment options and appeals to the crypto‑savvy audience.
- Operational efficiency – speed and low costs improve the customer experience without adding administrative burden.
How a bitcoin payment works
- Enter the amount – the cashier enters the total in USD, EUR, GBP, or in BTC.
- Create an LN invoice – the system generates a QR code with a Lightning invoice.
- Customer pays – the customer scans the QR code with a compatible Bitcoin wallet and sends the payment.
- Immediate confirmation – the POS shows successful receipt and prints or sends the receipt.
- Settlement for the merchant – funds are credited to your LN account continuously; ready for withdrawal to your own wallet at any time.
Simple activation
- The integration uses the proven LN node operator Hydranode, meeting performance requirements while respecting user privacy.
- The merchant creates or links a Hydranode account directly in the POS and can start accepting Bitcoin right away.
- Withdrawals are verified via Signal, and you can transfer funds to your own wallet multiple times per day with no additional fees.
Fees
- A 2% service fee per transaction covers the secure and reliable operation of LN nodes.
- Unlike card payments, this fee is paid by the customer, so the merchant has no operating costs for accepting LN payments.
Compatibility and support
- Works with popular Bitcoin Lightning wallets (mobile and desktop).
- Supports amounts in USD, EUR, GBP, and BTC, receipt printing or digital receipts, and full recording of transactions in POS reports and end‑of‑day summaries.
Security and privacy
- Lightning transactions do not expose sensitive customer or merchant data.
- No data tied to BTC payments is stored by us or by Hydranode for this integration. Onboarding requires only an email address and a Signal phone number for withdrawal verification via Hydranode.
- Access to withdrawals is protected by verification, and every transfer is transparently recorded in the POS for auditing.
